Rider Highlight: Dean Parker takes the win at Keen Wealth Kansas State Cyclocross Masters 65+

Dean Parker, a Kansas force to be reckoned with, has been ripping it up in Kansas. He recently took the win at Keen Wealth Kansas State Cyclocross Masters 65+!

Brief event/course description:

Course had a lot of climbing, in fact as soon as you turned off the pavement the climbing started. The other tricky part was the wet slippery tree roots in some of the turns.

How’d the race go down for you?

I got a good start and hit the grass and the climb at the front. By the top of the climb we were into the back of the 50’s. I spent the rest of the race catching the younger guys and holding off another 60+ (John Wentling) who was having a god race also.

Which coach do you work with and how did your training help you prepare for the event?

Adam has had me working on explosive acceleration. This helped at the start and coming out of the corners. Adam also helped with the mental aspect of racing.

What advice do you have for someone up and coming in your cycling discipline?

In cyclocross conditioning is important but another important factor is bike handling. As I have been doing Adam’s workouts I also took time to ride my cross bike off road. So get a coach and ride your bike in race like conditions.

What is your next event?

Kansas State Category , Rut N Guts and US Cyclocross Nationals
