Pete Seng recently competed in the Lutsen 99er, Men’s 50-59. His result qualified him for Leadville, a long-time goal of his. Congrats Pete! Good luck at Leadville in a couple weeks!

Brief event/course description:

Along the north shore of Lake Superior, in the Minnesota north woods. The race is 99 miles, about 7,000 feet of climbing, 7% single track, 10% pavement, 40% snowmobile/ski trail, 43% Forest Service Road, 100% FUN!

How’d the race go down for you?

Tough conditions with continuous rain, and lots of mud. I had a time goal which I didn’t quite attain, and another goal, qualifying for Leadville, which was attained for the first time! And I rode much of the race with friends…

Which coach do you work with and how did your training help you prepare for the event?

Grant Harrison. Working with Grant made training much more fun this season, while at the same, increasing my overall fitness on the bike. This type of race exposes your weaknesses, as it lasts upward of 6 hours.

What advice do you have for someone up and coming in your cycling discipline?

Sign-up for races, they are very motivational in terms of getting you out on the trail and training…

What is your next event?

 Leadville Trail 100 MTB
