Rider Highlight: David Rosen took the win at Cross Crusade Race #4- PIR Heron Lakes, Clydesdale Category
David Rosen has been hard at work prepping for the cross season. His efforts paid off with a win recently at Cross Crusade Race #4- PIR Heron Lakes, Clydesdale Category. Here’s his story:
Brief event/course description:
Cyclocross Race/ 1.9 mile Cyclocross course. Mostly flat with 3 long straightaways. Muddy race conditions kept things slippery especially in the off camber sections.
How’d the race go down for you?
I had a front row start due to series points. When the whistle blew, I settled into 5th place but when a teammate went flying by me on the opening straightaway, I jumped on his wheel and away we went. I was able to pass him once we got to the first technical section, and then just powered away from him and the of the field. I was out of the saddle sprinting on the straightaways as they only needed 45 seconds of power. By lap 3 I had a decent gap over 2nd place and from then on it was about managing my efforts and keeping an eye on whoever was behind me.
Which coach do you work with and how did your training help you prepare for the event?
I work with Matthew Hill and the training I have been doing kept me really fresh for the event. By focusing on short/ hard efforts in training to simulate race conditions, and then knowing when to take it easy before the race, I was able to come in fresh mentally and physically.
What advice do you have for someone up and coming in your cycling discipline?
Take recovery VERY seriously. You may feel like you want to go hard on a recovery day because you are feeling fresh, but you need to save those “matches” for race day and stick to the plan.
What is your next event?
Cross Crusade races 5 & 6 for Halloween weekend.
Thanks David! We’re looking forward to seeing what else the cross season has in store for you!
