Athlete Highlight: Skyler Mackey
Name: Skyler Mackey
Event & Category: Cyntergy Hurtland UCI C2
Brief event/course description: The course was technical with lots of short and steep ups and downs. There were also multiple creek crossings and a very technical off camber section.
How’d the race go down for you? For me the race was a constant battle with attacks being launched and places being rotated around all day. The entire race came down to the last half lap where I was able to attack after the barriers and win my very first UCI Cyclocross event!
Which coach do you work with and how did your training help you prepare for the event?
I work with Adam Mills who has been helping me work on my high sustained power which led me to be able to keep the pace high and still launch attacks when needed.
What advice do you have for someone up and coming in your cycling discipline?
My advice to someone coming up to the UCI ranks of cyclocross is to stay calm and stay patient even when things aren’t going the way you wanted. When you get flustered after a crash or mistake it can only lead to more crashes and mess ups. Being patient and calm is something I have grown to learn over the years of my racing which has led me to multiple successes especially this one.
What is your next event?
My next event is the CXLA UCI C2
