Sofia Schugar
Sofia Schugar, BS
Sofia began her coaching career in 2018 and comes from a background of elite road and gravel racing with a successful athlete-student background on the velodrome and in triathlon at UCSD.
With a degree from UCSD in Cognitive Neuroscience- Neuroscience, Sofia has worked in the research realm for several years with studies raging from genetic manipulation of serotonin receptors to fMRI studies for substance abuse treatment. She uses this scientific approach when learning about and employing the best research surrounding endurance sport and continues learning for life, especially in the endurance realm.
While at UCSD Sofia developed a passion for triathlon, but has a talent for biking. She continues her relationship with the triathlon world by coaching many athletes for middle to long distance triathlon events. She specializes in time restricted age group athletes and pushes them towards PR and Podiums with structured, yet manageable training programs.
She has always had a love for endurance sport of course science backed training methods, but she likes to also keep training fun, focused, and engaging for her clients. Her favorite coaching experiences range from Ironman and 70.3 age group wins to managing a workout schedule for 70 high school cross country athletes at Torrey Pines High School. She loves creating manageable programs for the time crunched athlete with lofty goals. She believes that a personalized approach can help anyone achieve their best.
