Dr. Stacey Brickson

Dr. Brickson brings 30 years of sports medicine experience as a Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Specialist to her athletes.  She earned her PhD from UW-Madison in 2002 in Exercise Physiology, with a focus on muscle injury. She joined the faculty in 2008 as professor in the Department of Orthopedics, teaching in the Physical Therapy Program. Her research focus switched to more applied physiology when she joined the Human Performance Lab from 2015-2018 to conduct research evaluating the relationship between metrics such as sleep, mood and training load with injury and illness in athletes. Stacey has worked with professional bike fitter Colin O’Brien at Cronometro for nearly a decade, doing musculoskeletal assessments as an integrated part of therapeutic bike fit, and is a certified fitter herself with Serotta International Cycling Institute and BikePT. On paper, she is a USA Cycling Level 1 coach, NICA Level 1 coach, and member of the USA Cycling Coach Development program. At heart, she is passionate about promoting pedaling as a form of exercise and competition for people of all ages and abilities.

Stacey completed 6 Ironman races, including the World Championship in Kona, before shifting gears to endurance cycling. Some of her favorite and most challenging endeavors have included L’Ariegeoise, LOTOJA, Haute Route Norway, Race Across the West (4 person-relay), Mallorca 312 and 20 Horribly Hilly Hundreds, right here in Wisconsin.  Turning to dirt, she has been on the podium for her age-group at Unbound 100 and Big Sugar 100 gravel events, Chequamegon 40 MTB Festival, Wausau24 and earned her belt buckle at Leadville 100 MTB.
