What turned you on to cycling? At what point did you know that you wanted to make a career out of it?
My Grandfather owns a bike shop, so I grew up around the sport. It wasn’t until about 3 or 4 years ago that I realized if I put forth enough effort that I had the option to make my passion for cycling a career.
What has been your greatest obstacle in the sport?
Growing up in Kansas where the cycling scene is not very large would be my greatest challenge. When I first started in the sport it was very difficult to have to constantly be traveling out of town or out of the country to go to races.
Who would you consider to be your hero?
My Grandfather. Owning a bike shop has made him very involved in the sport. He’s pretty much taught me everything I know.
Who has been the biggest supporter of your cycling career?
My entire family has been extremely supportive of my career and continues to support me everyday.
Describe an embarrassing Athletic Moment:
Tripping and falling over some barriers in front of a bunch fans at a big race in Belgium.
Does training and racing interfere with a “normal” life?
Cycling does interfere with a “normal” life. Traveling is the primary interference. I often miss holidays and hanging out with friends and family, particularly during training.
Where do you place cycling in level of importance in your life?
Cycling is my passion and my career but it doesn’t come before friends, family or religion.
If you could change one rule in competitive cycling what would it be?
I wish there was a lower weight limit on bikes.
What would you consider to be your greatest strength?
Good all-arounder — Stage racing.
What cycling related accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am most proud of representing the US in the World Cup races in Belgium a few years back.
What was your first bike?
It was a little 16 inch red bicycle that my Grandfather made for me. I don’t remember the brand.
What life lessons has cycling taught you?
Not everything can be perfect and go as planned, you have to make the best out of the road you have in front of you and roll with the punches.

I was born on May 17th, 1981 in Luxembourg, Europe. I initially started racing mountain bikes in 1995 at age 14 and raced primarily off the road (mountain bike cross country), winning multiple state titles in Germany before focusing on the road in 2008. After graduating with a MBA in Sports and Entertainment Management from the University of Dallas in 2007 I joined the Metro Volkswagen Cycling Team for my first full season on the road. In 2009 I also took over management of the team besides racing full time. In 2011 the Metro Volkswagen Cycling Team merged into the ELBOWZ Racing team, where I again got the chance to focus on riding and racing full time.
The same year I also was eligible to adopt a second nationality and from there on I competed for Luxembourg. That was also the time when I rediscovered my love for the off-road disciplines and I started racing cyclocross during the winter of 2011.That first cross season was already pretty successful and I earned a spot on the national team and the opportunity to participate at the cyclocross world championships in Koksjide in 2012. Last winter I decided to focus fully on the cross season and that decision paid off with the national title as well as the selection to race the world championships in Louisville.
In 2013 I made the move back to Europe for personal reasons, after racing primarily in the US for the last 6 years. Since the beginning of 2013 I am racing for Team Differdange – Gigi – Losch, a continental squad out of Luxembourg. My focus shifted even more towards the off road disciplines, racing some mountain bike xc and marathon events during the summer besides cross. In 2014 I managed the hat trick, winning the Luxembroug National Championships in the Cyclocross as well as the XCO and XCM (Cross Country Olympique and Cross Country Marathon) Mountain Bike disciplines. My primary goal for the 2014/15 cross season is to repeat the victory at nationals and moving up in the UCI rankings again. Looking further down the road, I am aiming to further improve in the XCO UCI rankings and to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio in the Mountain Bike XCO discipline.
